Musinf

The Municipal Museum of Modern Art, Information and Photography (MUSINF) was created in 1981 according to a project by critic Carlo Emanuele Bugatti, with the support of artists such as Virgilio Guidi, Umberto Mastroianni, and Orfeo Tamburi. The Museum documents the relation between words and images as an information binomial, paying a special attention to the use of photography as artistic expression and information support.

The project was supported by several artists with donations that have converted MUSINF into one of the main Italian documentation centres of contemporary art, engraving and photography, with about 1,700 works donated by over 50 important artists of the national scenario.

A section of the Museum is dedicated to Scuola Fotografica Misa (Misa Photographic School) created in the Fifties in Senigallia and especially known at national level for Giuseppe Cavalli, the founder of the group and theoretician of photography, and Mario Giacomelli, photographer of international reputation.

In particular, the museum hosts a complete anthological collection of Giacomelli’s work, with 250 photographs that were selected and donated by the same artist, from the Fifties to nowadays, including some of his most famous series, such as “Scanno” or “Io non ho mani che mi accarezzino il viso”, and the famous “little priests” playing in their black soutanes.
