Garibaldi Square
Like the Portici, Piazza Garibaldi, also known as Piazza del Duomo, evokes the most splendid period of the fair: in fact, it is at the center of the urban expansion project commissioned by Pope Lambertini in the mid-18th century.
Thanks to the recently completed redevelopment works, Piazza Garibaldi creates an urban landscape of great charm and beauty, welcoming public buildings of great architectural value: Palazzo Becci, the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle, the Bishop’s Palace with the Diocesan Art Gallery, Palazzo Micciarelli (formerly Filanda), Auditorium San Rocco, Palazzo delle Dogane (Il Doganone) and the Collegio Ginnasio Pio IX.
Particularly noteworthy are Palazzo Micciarelli, designed by Senigallia architect Pietro Ghinelli and which at the beginning of the 19th century housed, within its courtyard, a wooden condominium theatre, and the Cathedral, rich in works of art.
